Badminton:China Open: Chetan, Saina out of singles

India’s leading shuttlers Chetan Anand and Saina Nehwal crashed out of the men’s and women’s singles respectively in the China Open Super Series after losing their first round matches in Guangzhou on Wednesday.

Saina, who won two Grand Prix titles this year besides making it to the quarter-finals of the Beijing Olympics , gave a tough fight to fifth seed Lin Zhu of China before going down 6-21, 21-12, 19-21 in 53 minutes.

Anand was nowhere near his best, as Malaysia’s Choong Hann Wong took just 26 minutes to send him packing 10-21, 14-21.

Arvind Bhatt kept India’s flag flying in the tournament, moving into the second round of the men’s singles with a straight games victory.

He was at his ruthless best while demolishing Wee Chung Pei of Malaysia 21-9, 21-13 to set up a second round clash against Petr Koukal of the Czech Republic.

There was some consolation for Saina though as she and her Canadian partner Anna Rice sailed into the doubles second round after defeating Ying Long and Ka Lei Mak of Macau 21-15, 21-17.

The Indo-Canadian combination will next take on the fourth seeded Korean pair of Jung Eun Ha and Min Jung Kim.

Badminton: Indian Shuttlers continue their winning streak

Chetan Anand and other Indian shuttlers are continuing their winning runs. They have moved into the 2nd round of the Denmark Open. Chetan has moved in the Singles while Jwala Gutta and V Diju have moved to the 2nd round in mixed doubles

Chetan Anand and the mixed doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and V Diju eased into the second round of the Denmark Open, even as compatriots Arvind Bhatt and Aditi Mutatkar crashed out of the Super Series event. In the men’s singles category, National champion Anand beat Stefan Wojcikiewicz of Canada 21-6, 21-15, while Gutta and Diju prevailed over the Indonesian pair of Endang Nursugianti and Anggun Nugroho 21-15, 21-12 in the mixed doubles.

Badminton: Chetan loses in Dutch Open final. Indian Men lose in doubles too

Chetan Anand’s bid to win his third title on the trot came crashing as the national champion went down fighting against third seed Indonesian Andre K Tedjono in the men’s singles final at the Dutch Open Grand Prix badminton tournament in Amsterdam on Sunday.

Sixth seed Chetan lost 15-21, 21-11, 19-21 in a 51-minute gruelling battle.

India had more disappointment in store as Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas failed to put up a fight and lost in straight games to top seeded pair of Fran Kurniawan and Rendra Wijaya of Indonesia in the men’s doubles final.

The Indian pair lost 18-21, 18-21 in a lopsided match that lasted just 29 minutes.

Badminton: Chetan Anand wins Bitburger Open, V Diju and Jwala Gutta win mixed doubles

Here is something that would warm the hearts of every Indian. Chetan Anand has won the Bitburger open being held in Germany. In the process, he has become the first Indian to win a Grand Prix tournament. The icing on the cake was it was an all Indian Final, with the other finalist being Arvind Bhat from India. While this might take of some sheen off, the win nevertheless is a whammo for Indian Badminton. The final score read 23-25, 24-22, 23-21

Even better was the win of V Diju and Jwala Gutta in the mixed doubles. So there we are with 2 titles in a single tournament. They defeated Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen of Denmark. The final score read 8-21, 21-17, 22-2.

Badminton- Indians in 3rd round of Bitburger Open Tournament

Three Indians have entered into the 3rd round of the Bitburger Open in Germany. The trio of Arvind Bhat, P Kashyap nad Chetan Anand have entered into the 3rd round of the Open being held at Saarbruecken in Germany.

Arvind won against Martin Bille Larsen of Denmark 21-15 21-7 in just 25 minutes
Chetan pipped his German rival Sebastian Rduch 21-15 21-14 in a contest, lasting 24 minutes.
Kashyap beat Dieter Domke of Germany 21-17 21-19 in his second round match

Aditi Mutatkar, defeated German Mette Stahlberg 21-12 21-8 in the first round yesterday

Rest of the Indians in the fiels folded up .

Indian pair of Jwala Gutta and Shruti Kurian were upset in the first round as they suffered a 15-21 18-21 bashing by German duo of Johanna Goliszewski and Gitte Khler.

Rupesh K T Kumar and Sanave Thomas went down 19-21 21-15 17-21 to fifth seed German pair of Michael Fuchs and Ingo Kindervater.

Badminton – Chetan Anand wins Czech Open

Some more news from the Badminton World. Chetan Anand won the Czech Open title in flat 26 minutes defeating his rival comprehensively. His consistency is something that needs to be applauded and admired. in June Chetan had won the Spanish Open, Nepal Open and had featured in the finals of the Indian Grand Prix.

The final score read 21-15, 21-14 with the defeated rival being Carl Baxter. According to reports, it was Chetan Anand’s smashes that were to be watched.
