The third South Asian Federation Junior Athletic (U-20) championship will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on November 7 and 8. The first SAF Youth Athletic Championship for under-18 will also be held along with the junior meet, Tamil Nadu Athletic Association President W I Dawaram told reporters here today.
Around 350 athletes from eight countries — Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and hosts India would participate in the meet, which is the first international athletic meet to be held in the city after the SAF Games in 1995.
Association Secretary C Neelasivalingasamy said events would be held for both boys and girls sections in various disciplines.
Six athletes from Tamil Nadu — G Gayathri, L Surya, J Hemashree, Nikil Chitharasu, A Rosito Sax and B Azharuddin — had already been selected for the event. Some more athletes would be picked for the meet, he added.
